May 4, 2026| - Board Meeting 

 

Welcome 

Approval of the April 7th minutes was put off until next meeting

New Business Items added to the meeting were: LeBlond construction; 4th of July picnic and fireworks & status of building next to Toy building.

 

Police Report - Officer Wendelyn Martin reported that May or June might be her last meeting.  She has been promoted to Drone work.  There were 3 personal thefts and 3 thefts from auto which is on the rise.  Regina reported to officer Martin that there were 6-8 old tires dumped on Hoff Avenue. 

Riverview East Report (CPS) - Spencer LSDMC - Karen Hordinski 

• The school garden needs help to pick up garden beds 3x3x6.  Marian Spencer community garden this week or weekend. School will pay for gas. hordink@cpsboe.k12.oh.us
• The school served 293 different students this year in the resource room through school supplies, food pantry, clothing, coats, and family holiday support. Thank you for your support!
• REA students graduate on May 14. Their last day of school is this Friday, 5/8 with a senior clap out. Spencer graduates on May 19. Their last day of school is May 18.
• The Brain Bowl parade went well - thank you Officer Martin for helping us!
• 5-6th grade teachers want to plan an East End Day. The students will walk from Spencer to LeBlond & back. About 90 -100 people. We are looking for places to stop on the way there and back. Any freebies are welcome!

Events: 

• AP testing started today!
  8th graders currently in Washington DC for a field trip with their social studies teachers
• Spencer Prom is coming up this weekend!
• Field trips to Memorial Hall, Save the Animals Foundation, Greenacres Farm, Taft museum, Burnet Woods, Cincinnati Art Museum and Kings Island
• May 15th is Marian Spencer Community Garden Workday, Field day, Packapalooza 
• FreeStore FoodBank Hunger Walk & 5k - Register to be on our Spencerview team!

Leblond Report (CRC) - Taylor Singleton

• No official confirmation but she thinks the pool will open June 1st
• Leblond will have raised beds this year for campers. At the end of the season they want to hold a Farmers Market.

NSP Report - Regina Moss

• The checks have not yet been sent to community councils. However, we can start spending the funds.  We have communication expenses and will have the East End Day June 20th expenses.

City Liaison - Jane Sites

• Laura Rogers read Jane’s report on the plans for Lunken Airport Terminal
• Jane met with Tyler Watkins, the Lunken Project Director, and he shared their drafted plans. Tyler is excited about this project. He explained his company is only in charge of the terminal remake.
• He is waiting on the City Manager’s office to approve an open house regional meeting to receive community input.
• Ground Breaking Ceremony May 14.

Riverside Drive Traffic Safety Committee - Gary Lessis, Chair

• The traffic and safety study and support letters were sent to the city.  They are in the Asst City Manager’s office Jim Brazina who used to be the head of DOTE.
• Circuit Cafe noted additional Speed enforcement near their business.

Garden Committee - Michael Bolan

• The garden received 2 grants in January.  One from the City’s Urban Agriculture department which we will use to build more beds for additional gardeners as well as a local matching grant that will help this year to complete the water conservation and irrigation project which is nearing completion. The garden is coming alive!

Development/Affordable Housing Committee - Zach Davidson, Chair 

• Meets 2nd Monday of the month.
• Past president, Patrick Ormond expressed interest in joining the committee.
• Suggested affordable “floating houses”
• It’s a slow process, city department that handles TIF funds are being restructured

Schmidt Field Committee - Tanya Henderson and Laura Rogers

• It was recommended to reach out to Paddlefest and Adventure Crew, who uses Schmidt for their annual fundraiser for collaboration with the improvements.
• Taylor Singleton; CRC Coordinator,  has expressed interest in helping us communicate with the city on our recommendations for Schmidt revitalization effort.
• The committee is asking for additional benches for river views, seating for sport spectators, updating picnic tables, grills and possibly adding a basketball court.

President’s report - Steve Johns

• TIF Home Improvement Program - time to push this to finish line

New Business

• Long time community member Don Wells, has requested some help with funding for the annual 4th of July fireworks event in the neighborhood.  We requested that he present the needed expenses and we would vote on spending some of our community engagement NSP funds to assist.
• MSD has a CSO separation project near Riverwalk Condos - some notice has been given but no details.  Pam Cho and Steve will reach out to MSD
